Porrima sponsor professional racehorse jockey, Richie McLernon

Porrima have signed an exciting new sponsorship deal with Cheltenham Festival winner and Grand National runner-up, Richie McLernon.

Porrima, a Manchester-based company who provide proposal and tariff analysis solutions for the IT and telecoms industries, have announced that they will be sponsoring Cheltenham Festival winner, Richie McLernon. The sponsorship deal will see the decorated jockey, who often wears the famous green and gold silks of owner J.P. McManus, sporting the Porrima branding and its distinctive purple logo on his breeches in all races in which he takes part.

This deal comes after Porrima founder and CEO, Daniel Shapiro, and fellow Director, David Clifford, were presented with a fantastic opportunity that they could not refuse, given that they are both huge fans of the sport and avid supporters of McLernon. The chance to sponsor the County Cork native and become more involved in the sport from another angle proved too good an opportunity to miss.

While Porrima as a business may not have many ties to the world of horse racing on the surface, the ethos around inclusivity that the industry continues to develop is one which aligns with the IT and telecoms analysis business.

“Not only is it a pleasure sponsoring a high-profile jockey like Richie, but for Porrima to be involved in the racing industry gives us a lot of satisfaction. Racing is open to anybody, regardless of background. It’s one of the world’s most inclusive mainstream sports and this fits perfectly with our philosophy at Porrima,” stated Daniel Shapiro.

Horse racing is one of the few sports where men and women can compete equally. It does not discriminate against gender, ability, class, race, or sexuality, but rather allows for exciting and intense competition between the skills of the jockeys and the abilities of the horses. Everyone from the stablehands to the trainers, and to the owners themselves, each have an equal investment in the horse and rider and are treated with the respect they deserve.

There have been big moves recently within the industry to communicate and educate people on this topic. Initiatives such as Racing with Pride and the promotion of equine charities, such as the Ebony Horse Club and Park Lane Stables, are currently being used to promote and encourage the LGBTQ+ community, inner-city children and disabled people to become involved in and reap the benefits of the sport.

“As a fan of the sport, it’s really exciting that Porrima are sponsoring a jockey. After what has been a challenging two years, I look forward to being able to share this sponsorship with colleagues and clients and say a big thank you by having a day at the races,” noted David Clifford.

David also added that while the sponsorship may have been born out of his and Daniel’s love for horse racing, it is additionally a way for Porrima to give back to the sport. The horse racing industry contributed £3.45 billion to the UK economy in 2019 and provides over 17,000 jobs in the UK, many of which contribute significantly to the rural community and countryside economy.
